Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation awards $50,000 to support Behavioral Health Response Team
The Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to support First Step of Sarasota's Behavioral Health Response Team (BHRT), an innovative program that responds to people suffering an acute psychiatric and/or substance use crisis.
The BHRT's main goal is to intervene appropriately, avoiding emergencies that require law enforcement involvement and reducing the number of involuntary hospitalizations. The BHRT responds 24/7, 365 wherever someone is in crisis, be it a home, hospital, office or street, to provide immediate behavioral health support. A BHRT/Access center also helps individuals of any age and families who are experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis.
The BHRT serves everyone — low-income, uninsured clients as well as those who have Medicare, Medicaid and insurance coverage.
