First Step’s 30-bed medically-supervised Detoxification Unit is housed at the Addictions Receiving Facility in Sarasota.  With an emphasis on good nutrition and vitamins, linkage with self-help support groups and planning for continuing care, First Step staff members work with clients through the physical and emotional crisis of withdrawal.  With an average stay of three to 10 days, clients participate in daily structured activities, including psycho-educational groups, AA/NA groups and discharge planning.

The Detox Unit accepts both voluntary and involuntary admissions.  Involuntary admissions are initiated through the Florida Marchman Act.  If you have a friend or loved one who has lost the power of self-control with respect to substance abuse and is considered a danger to themselves or others, and you’d like to learn how to have them admitted to First Step under the Marchman Act, click here.

Individuals in need of detoxification can be admitted seven days a week, 24 hours a day.  Fees are based on a sliding scale and most insurance is accepted.  To speak to a Detox admissions counselor, please call 941-953-2519.
